I have a confession to make. I’ve been watching TLC again. I know, I know. I was supposed to stay away from the remote. What can I say… I’m a sucker for TLC.
Anyway, I caught an episode of A Wedding Story the other day, and I started thinking about how neat it must be for those couples to have a record of how they met and fell in love. I mean, I can barely get two sentences out of my mom when I ask her about how she met my dad; she’s just not one for remembering details.
So I thought I would write about my own story in the interest of preserving the details for my (admittedly very poor) memory. This will be a series of posts, so remember to come back for the full story!
<cue cheesy theme music… “the years may come and go, but there’s one thing I know… love is all there is when I’m with youuuuuu” …>
Our story, the story of Mitch & Becky, started in December of 2005 - two and a half years ago.
When I first met Mitch, I was in a transition phase of my life – I was in a relatively new relationship and I had just left my job as a budget analyst for an exciting opportunity at a travel company. It was during the long training sessions for my new job that I became friends with one of my fellow trainees (a girl named Katie) who would someday be my sister-in-law!
One day after work, Katie invited a few girls over to her apartment (which she shared with her twin brother, Mitch). My first impression was that he was a nice, attractive guy. But seeing as how I already had a boyfriend - my mind just wasn’t in a place to think any more than that. As the months went by, I spent a lot of time at Katie’s place. We would hang out with Mitch and his friends at the swimming pool, hold weekend grilling parties, and go to the bars as a group.
Once I finished my training sessions, I was traveling about 20 to 25 days a month and my boyfriend had moved to Texas. Our relationship started to be more and more difficult to maintain, and eventually we broke it off. Not long after I became single, I was invited over to Mitch and Katie’s house to watch a Buckeye football game.
Now, if you don’t know someone from Ohio, it might be difficult to understand the degree of fan frenzy the Ohio State Buckeye alumni are capable of. Think of the biggest football fan you know & then multiply that by ten. I am not exaggerating.
Obviously, I considered it an honor to be invited over to watch a game at their place, and surprised them by showing up with a homemade t-shirt that said “Honorary Buckeye” on the front. I had to google “Buckeyes” to even figure out what the team colors were! I even came across a recipe for chocolate buckeye candies and made those too.
It all seemed like a good idea at the time, but once I put on my t-shirt and got the candy into the car, I started to think I had gone a little overboard. Would they think I was a little crazy? Dorky? Why was I going to all of this effort anyway?
Luckily, I didn’t have anything to worry about. When I got to their apartment, they were both thrilled that I had brought Buckeyes; and they thought my t-shirt was awesome! Looking back, I don’t think I could have done anything more perfect to commemorate my first Buckeye game.
To this day, I think that may have been the moment that Mitch fell in love with me. There was just one little problem… his girlfriend.
To be continued…
That is such a cool "how we met" story!

Being new to Blogs I've been feeling a bit like I'm doing something wrong, peaking in on you or being too nosy. (In my case could be viewed as not being a good idea). However....Thanks for inviting me to come along for the ride, I am enjoying this and look forward to them everyday.

Cute!
I posted most of our "how we met" story on Valentine's Day, too. Fun to have a record, in case memory gets fuzzy...
